1.04 Adoption

For the purposes of these Regulations, a child is taken to have been adopted by a person if:

(a) the child has been adopted in accordance with the law of a country, or of a State or Territory of a country, that gives the adoption the same effect in law as the birth of the child to the adopting person as a natural child; or

(b) the child has been adopted in accordance with a prescribed adoption law; or

(c) the adoption of the child has been registered under a law of the Commonwealth, a State or a Territory that provides for the registration of adoptions and the relevant court or authority has certified that the adoption is in the best interests of the child.
