The Subclass 476 Skilled Recognised Graduate visa is an 18-month temporary visa for recent graduates of engineering or related technology degrees from recognised overseas institutions. The visa enables graduates to gain work experience in Australia — experience that can later support a skilled permanent residence application through the points-tested pathway (Subclass 189, Subclass 190, or Subclass 491).

Eligible institutions are those recognised by Engineers Australia (EA) as equivalent to an Australian four-year engineering degree. The list is published by EA and is subject to change. The applicant must have graduated within 2 years of the application date.

• Must have graduated within 2 years of the date the application is lodged
• Competent English required (IELTS 6.0 per band or equivalent)
• Health and character requirements must be satisfied

Applications are lodged via ImmiAccount. Evidence must include certified academic transcripts confirming the engineering qualification, evidence of graduation date, and English test results. The visa can be applied for from inside or outside Australia.

The Subclass 476 is a temporary visa valid for 18 months from grant. The holder has full work and study rights. The visa does not limit the holder to engineering work — any occupation may be undertaken. The holder may use the experience gained to meet the skilled work experience requirements for a permanent points-tested visa application.
